SCALE

TREATMENT FOR SCALE INSECTS:
Scale is a type of insect that can attach itself and feed on just about any plant. There are many different types of scale. Some scale such as Asian Snow Scale only go after certain plants. Asian Snow Scale is very common in tropical climates like South Florida. This scale will attach itself to the underside of the palm fronds on Sago Palms.
SCALE ON SAGO PALM: Without the proper treatment for this scale it will eventually kill the plant. Sago Palms should be treated once a year for the Asian Snow Scale with a systemic insecticide. This type of treatment has a very long residual and will keep the Sago Palm safe from any kind of scale insect for at least 12 months.
SCALE ON CROTON PLANT: You will also very often find what’s called soft scale attacking Croton plants. This is a very common kind of scale and if you have Crotons in your garden you will get soft scale at some point too. The way to prevent this is to treat the crotons once a year with a systemic treatment. There are chemicals that will protect your plants from all scale insects and other insects too for a period of 12 months.
TREATING SCALE ON CITRUS TREES: Scale insects can also attach themselves to citrus trees. The trouble with this kind of scale infestation is if you use a systemic insecticide to get rid of the scale it will poison the fruit. This makes things a little more difficult but not impossible. There are organic treatments available for treating eatables that are derived from other plants and very safe to use. Scale insects are common place in the garden but with the right treatment plan you can keep all of you landscape free from scale and any other insects that might damage your Lawn & Garden.
